The Chaffey Panther baseball team got off to a great start scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st-inning and never looked back, defeating Golden West College 8-2 to take a one game lead in a best of three playoff series.
Jordan Daniels, AJ Hurtado, and Eric Valdivia all contributed in the win. Both Daniels and Hurtado had two hits, while Valdivia collected a game high 3 RBI's.
"The guys prepared well for this game, and that preparation carried over to this game," says head coach Andrew Smith. "We had a couple of challenges, but the most important task at hand was to get the first win, and we accomplished that."
Jackson Price was solid on the mound. The 6'2 right handed pitcher pitched 6.1 innings, only surrendering 3 hits, and had 11 strikeouts. Smith adds, " he overcame a very dangerous lineup combined with a tight strike zone by landing multiple pitches for strikes, especially his changeup later in the game."
This team understood the assignment today. They played loose but focused while remaining confidence with their energy, something that has been present all season long. Smith adds, "we are looking at it as one 18-inning game. We are only halfway through it. Nothing to celebrate yet.
The second game will begin tomorrow, Saturday, May 3rd, with a 11:30 a.m. start.
