Panthers Battle to the Final Out in 17-16 Showdown at Barstow
In one of the most thrilling battles of the season, Chaffey College’s baseball team came up just short in a 17-16 loss to Barstow on March 21.
Chaffey wasted no time jumping ahead, scoring five runs in the first inning behind RBI hits from Adrian Morales, Michael Saltzer and Andrew Cuellar.
However, Barstow quickly responded with five runs and continued to apply pressure, building a 15-7 lead by the fifth inning.
The Panthers refused to back down and launched a six-run seventh inning highlighted by Adrian Morales’ two-run double and Evan Salcido’s clutch hitting.
Chaffey completed the comeback effort in the ninth, taking a 16-15 lead after Saltzer’s RBI triple and a sacrifice fly from Robert Morales.
Saltzer delivered a standout performance, going 3-for-6 with three RBIs and a triple, while Adrian Morales led the team with four hits and three RBIs.
Barstow ultimately had the final push, tying the game on a sacrifice fly before walking it off with bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.
While the result didn’t fall in their favor, Chaffey showcased explosive offense, resilience, and the ability to compete in high-pressure situations.
