The Chaffey College men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Rio Hondo College on Tuesday afternoon at home, with both goals coming in the first half before the defenses held firm across the final 45 minutes.
The Panthers struck first in the fifth minute when Kevin Velasquez finished a delivery from Julio Martinez to give Chaffey the early edge. The Roadrunners equalized before halftime to level the match. Chaffey surged after the break, generating nine second-half shots. Velasquez and Martinez combined for the Panthers' lone goal, while Diego Garcia and Ernesto De Lara added pressure in the attacking third.
Goalkeeper Christian Hernandez kept Chaffey in the match with four saves, denying multiple looks from the Roadrunners. The back four, Armando Diaz, Ryan Pruitt, Alberto Gomez, and Alesandros Sanchez, held their ground against 13 total shots, limiting Rio Hondo to just one conversion.
Despite the draw, Chaffey showed persistence in transition play and created sustained pressure in the second half.
The Panthers will next travel to El Camino College on Friday, September 19, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.
