The Chaffey College men's soccer team earned a 3-1 home victory over Citrus College on Tuesday. It was a busy afternoon as both teams created chances, but Chaffey capitalized with goals in both halves to secure the win.
The Panthers struck early in the second minute when Diego Garcia finished off a feed from Julio Martinez to put Chaffey ahead. The teams traded chances through the remainder of the half, with goalkeeper Christian Hernandez recording key saves to preserve the 1-0 advantage before the break.
Jared Perez extended the lead in the 48th minute, converting a setup from Alex Andrade Portillo for a 2-0 advantage. The Owls cut the deficit in the 60th minute, but the Panthers responded by putting the game out of reach. In the 84th minute, Kevin Velasquez finished a pass from Victor Ramos to seal the 3-1 result.
Hernandez faced four shots on goal and recorded three saves, while Martinez and Perez led the attack with two shots apiece. Garcia, Velasquez, and Perez all found the back of the net to pace a balanced offensive effort.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, September 26, when they travel to LA Pierce College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
