The Chaffey College men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against College of the Canyons at home on Tuesday afternoon. Both teams traded early momentum and defensive stands, with the Panthers striking first before the Cougars leveled the score early in the second half.
Chaffey wasted no time getting on the board when Adrien Vazquez buried a shot in the sixth minute off a setup from Alberto Gomez. The Panthers continued to create opportunities in the final third but were unable to extend their lead before halftime.
The Cougars found the equalizer in the 50th minute. Despite a strong defensive showing from the backline, including Gomez, Alesandros Sanchez, Aiden Cardenas, and Tyler Luk, Chaffey was forced to settle for the draw.
Goalkeeper Fernando Monteon turned in a standout performance, recording seven saves on eight shots faced to preserve the result.
With the tie, the Panthers wrapped up non-conference play and will travel to Cero Coso College on Tuesday, October 7, for their Inland Empire Athletic Conference opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
