The Chaffey College men's soccer team fell 3–1 to College of the Desert at home on Friday afternoon in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play. Despite controlling stretches of possession and generating several chances, the Panthers were unable to overcome a pair of second-half goals from the Roadrunners.
College of the Desert opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a strike from the midfield following a buildup through the center of the field. Chaffey answered 20 minutes later when Ryan Pruitt delivered a well-placed pass to Adrien Vazquez, who buried the equalizer in the 32nd minute to make it 1–1 at halftime.
The Roadrunners regained the lead early in the second half in the 57th minute. Desert added a third goal in the 78th minute to seal the match.
Goalkeeper Christian Hernandez made three saves in goal, including several crucial stops early in the second half to keep the Panthers within reach.
With the loss, Chaffey moves to 5-3-1 in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference. The Panthers will close out the regular season at home on Wednesday, Nov. 12, against San Bernardino Valley College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
