Panthers Open the Season With an 8-0 Win at Cerritos
The Chaffey College softball team had a successful start to the 2026 season with an opening day win over the Cerritos Falcons. In the 3C2A preseason poll, Cerritos was ranked #11 in the state.
After three scoreless innings for both sides, the Panthers broke through in the fourth. Sophomore center fielder Lauren Chappell was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and sophomore third baseman Fernanda Cano followed with a double to put runners on second and third.
Two batters later, freshman shortstop Nevaeha Tarin smashed a double down the left field line, scoring both runners to give Chaffey a 2-0 lead.
The Panthers broke the game open in the fifth inning when freshman Adeline Ochoa started off with a walk and Chappell later banged an RBI single to bring her home. Cano followed that with a towering three-run home run to make it 6-0 Chaffey.
In the top of the seventh the Panthers added two more. Chappell hit a leadoff triple and scored on a passed ball. Then after a Cano single, Tarin drilled her second RBI double of the game to close out the scoring.
Chaffey is 1-0 overall while the Falcons drop to 1-2. The Panthers travel to Antelope Valley on Friday before hosting a three-way on Saturday against College of the Canyons at 10 a.m. and Grossmont College at 2 p.m.
