Chaffey completes weekend trip with 3-0 record
The Panthers took the road last weekend, heading to Moorpark College and then on to Santa Barbara for a 3-game road trip from which they emerged with 3 wins, making their current win streak 9 games.
On Friday, Chaffey took on the Moorpark Raiders, striking quickly in the top of the first. Freshman second baseman Micayla Arreola led off the game with a walk and sophomore Rosyvette Garcia sacrificed her over to second. Sophomore Fernanda Cano followed with an RBI single.
Moorpark answered with a pair in the bottom half of the inning for a 2-1 lead which lasted until the 3rd when Chaffey tied it up on another Cano RBI that drove in Arreola.
The Raiders scored a pair to take a 4-2 lead but the Panthers answered with a towering 2-run home run by freshman Mia Britt to tie the game.
In the 5th inning, Cano knocked in her 3rd run of the game to give the Panthers a 5-4 lead.
It stayed that way until the top of the 7th, when freshman shortstop Nevaeha Tarin drove a ball over the center field fence for a 3-run homer, giving the Panthers an insurmountable lead.
Freshman pitcher Sarah Hernandez came on in relief to shut down a Moorpark threat in the 7th and secure the save.
Chaffey is now 19-7 overall with conference play resuming next Wednesday.
