Aerilynn Young Named IEAC Athlete of the Week
Chaffey College sophomore forward Aerilynn Young has been named the Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC) Athlete of the Week for women's basketball for Oct. 27-Nov. 1.
Young has had a high-impact start to the season, and across a demanding three-game stretch she averaged a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 54 percent from the field. A relentless presence on the glass, she also averaged nearly five offensive rebounds per contest, establishing herself as one of the conference's most impactful interior players. At the free-throw line, Young's 85 percent shooting ranks second in the IEAC, and she currently leads the league in free-throw attempts, a testament to her physicality and ability to draw contact inside.
Young opened the week with a dominant performance on Nov. 4 at Cypress College, finishing with 13 points, 12 rebounds, four offensive boards, two assists, one steal and a 7-for-8 mark at the free-throw line. Her activity on the glass and ability to generate second-chance opportunities kept the Panthers within striking distance throughout the contest.
On Nov. 6 at Saddleback College, Young delivered another double-double, recording 12 points, 12 rebounds and six offensive boards while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. Her interior presence anchored Chaffey's effort in a defensive, low-scoring matchup that went down to the final minutes.
Young closed the week with one of her most efficient outings of the season on Nov. 8 at Citrus College, posting 15 points on 4-for-4 shooting along with five rebounds, three offensive boards, two assists and a 7-for-8 performance at the free-throw line. Her ability to finish through contact and extend possessions helped spark Chaffey's explosive second-half surge in the road victory.
