Panthers Battle to Scoreless Draw with Southwestern
The Chaffey College women's soccer team showcased its defensive resilience on Tuesday, earning a 0-0 draw against Southwestern College. The Panthers stood tall for 90 minutes, with goalkeeper Isabella Ortiz and a disciplined back line leading the way to preserve the shutout.
Ortiz delivered a standout performance, recording 13 saves to keep the Panthers in the match. Ortiz's composure in net, combined with decisive stops on several dangerous chances, gave the Panthers confidence throughout the match. The defensive unit of Tegan Garcia, Emma Guadron, and Chloe Rodriguez provided steady coverage, blocking shots, clearing the ball under pressure, and limiting quality looks on goal.
Natalia Gonzalez, Analyssa Huerta, and Emelyn Montes-Bueso worked tirelessly to disrupt play and win back possession, while Alexa Peredia and Karina Parchment pushed forward in transition, drawing fouls and creating opportunities to relieve pressure. Though the Panthers were unable to generate shots on target, their collective effort in all phases of the game highlighted their commitment to keep the Jaguars scoreless until the final whistle.
The result marked Chaffey's first tie of the season and underscored the team's grit, composure under pressure, and defensive discipline. The cohesive work of the back line provided momentum for the Panthers to build upon heading into their next match.
The Panthers will return to action on Friday, September 12, hosting Santa Monica College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
